Cornfield 2.0

6x8in. oil on Ampersand Gessobord - click to purchase here

Another one of my October Plein Air Challenge paintings! I wanted to re-do my Cornfield painting to see my skill growth, and holy cow, I've grown so much! I love painting en plein air. I live near a cornfield so it's my most frequent source of practicing en plein air. This day was a little foggy and very overcast, and a little bit windy. Combatting the weather is always something to keep in mind while painting en plein air, but it wasn't too bad.

Lost Home 2.0

Another one of my October Plein Air Challenge paintings! I wanted to re-do my Lost Home painting to see my skill growth, and holy cow, I've grown so much! I love painting en plein air. This location means a lot to me - it is a park that was close to the house I spent a considerable amount of time living in as a kid so its's a very special place. I love the dappled light against the shadow, which this painting is mainly in.

Lil Pun's Lil Sister

4x4in. oil on Blick Premier Artist's Panel - not available

Another little pumpkin painting, this is the lil sister painting of a previous painting, Lil Pun! Every year we pick out a small pumpkin to paint, and a few years ago I picked out 3! Lil Pun's family sure is growing! I wanted to experiment and see how much my skills have grown since Lil Pun, and it's cool to see the results.

Did you know that I offer pet portrait commissions? It's true! Now available on my website, you can inquire on my "Commissions" page (there's also a pop-up once you navigate to my website). You can also find up-to-date examples of what you can expect and previous commissions. Featured in this post is a painting of my cat, Nyl, focused on her blue and green eyes.

Which Pumpkin Are You Choosing?

7x5in. oil on canvas panel - click to purchase here

One of the hardest questions each October is "which pumpkin are you going to choose?" We have a lot of pumpkin patches here where I live, and each presents its own dilemma. For example, our tradition is that each year we get a small, little pumpkin that I make an alla prima painting of and then we carve a pumpkin as well. I've made many alla prima paintings of small, little pumpkins in the past, all available on my website. Which pumpkin shape do you tend to choose? 19/52

Grape Poison

12x9in. oil on Ampersand Gessobord - click to purchase here

Disclaimer: it is difficult to photograph dark paintings at my current photography skill, I apologize. That said, here is a spooky cauldron filled with grape poison! I love grape as a flavor of candy. This is a sister painting in a 2 part series.

Green Apple Poison

Disclaimer: it is difficult to photograph dark paintings at my current photography skill, I apologize. That said, here is a spooky cauldron filled with green apple poison! I actually like green apple as a flavor, but only as Zotz (if you haven't had Zotz before and like fizzy candy, check it out!). This is a sister painting in a 2 part series.

Applewood

There is a whiskey bar in the city I love to visit called Proof. They have all sorts of whiskey cocktails and drams that you could have poured for you. Normally I get an old fashioned made with Woodford Reserve, but they have another drink called the Applewood. It's similar to an old fashioned (or at least I think it is) but one of the main differences is that the garnish is a few slices of apple with nutmeg and the glass itself is infused with wood smoke. It's what I picture autumn to be in a cocktail: warm, smoky, a little fruity, and all around delicious. Note: please consume alcohol responsibly. 18/52
